Originally there was a gravel pit here. At the end of the 1970s it became a local recreation area. On the shore of the bathing lake there is a large lawn with a small nudist area on its west side, showers and sanitary facilities. Access to the lake is free. During the bathing season between May and September there is a bathing supervision from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., outside of this time bathing is prohibited. The quality of the water is monitored by the Offenbach Health Department.

The bathing beach at the Schultheissweiher is part of the "Rumpenheimer and Bürgeler Kiesgruben" nature reserve. A beautiful recreation area close to nature left to its own devices.
