At the 22-meter-wide harbor entrance, the incoming and outgoing shipping traffic is routed through the radio and traffic lights free of havoc. However, the main purpose of the system is the flood protection, because at a water level of 40 cm above the normal flood, the floodgates are closed and the shipping traffic is channeled. On both sides of the lock system is ever a beacon (red = port / left, green = starboard / right).
