The Büsum harbor entrance was first marked in 1878 by lighting a nearly 3-meter-long wooden pole with a kerosene lamp near the current main entrance to the beach.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the era of electrification began in Büsum. The engineer Max Gehre, a spa guest from Düsseldorf, enabled the first electric street and building lighting in 1900 through a pioneering achievement by building a wind turbine.
