Tips

The Grandfather Rock is part of the Devil's Wall. Some strength is required to climb it. But the effort is rewarded. From the top you have a magnificent view of Blankenburg. A few meters further you will find the grandmother rock and the Löbbecke rock. The area is a climbing paradise for children!

  • Scrambling is announced!

The Grandfather Rock (317 meters) can be climbed/climbed, but requires sure-footedness. Once at the top you have a wonderful view over Blankenburg. If you don't want to or can't go that high, you can stop off at the Grandfather restaurant below the hiking trail.

    Attention stamp hunters:
Directly on the hiking trail, between the Grandfather restaurant (below) and the Grandfather Rock (above), there is stamp box 76 for the Harz hiking pin. You can continue directly to the Haburg coat of arms HWN 74 via the Löbbeckestieg.

  • A great experience to wander over the Teufelsmauer.

Small nice climbing deposit with great views of Blankenburg and part of the Teufelsmauer.

Amusing summit trail over a section of the Teufelsmauer with great vantage points. Non-sure hikers I recommend to choose the path at the foot of the Teufelsmauer.

Panoramic point with great views of Blankenburg.

  • Sturdy shoes are essential! Squirrels can actually be fed from above in the forks of branches!
The hike is a great (climbing) experience, especially for children!

  • The good 6.5 km short tour is perfect to go with children. Grandfather Rock has a wonderful all-round view. On this Höhenkam you go comfortably on stick and stone the good 2.7 km to the Hamburg coat of arms. Halfway along the northern path you come to an artificially created Fuchsbau along, in which one can dive and explore wonderfully. Ideal for children! Arrived at the Hamburg coat of arms, the little ones can now really let off steam and explore the beautiful area, before you can then walk on the now southern path back to the Grandfather Gelsen.

  • Stamp point 76 / grandfather rock

The "Grandfather Rock" (317 m above sea level) together with the "Grandmother" forms the western end of the Teufelsmauer and is located on the eastern outskirts of Blankenburg.

It is one of the most impressive and highest cliffs of the Teufelsmauer and a landmark of Blankenburg. The rock can be climbed with some skill over rock steps and iron stairs. On the summit with the weather vane from 1998 there is a wonderful view of Blankenburg and the baroque garden with the large and small palaces. It is assumed that the name "Grandfather Rock" dates back to the time of the Germans, who paid homage to their god Wotan here on the great father.

A special attraction is the so-called "Löbbeckestieg", which leads to the right of the "Großvaterfelsen" to the "Hamburg Coat of Arms" HWN 74 to Timmenrode. This ridge path was created in 1853 at the instigation of the mayor of Blankenburg, Carl Löbbecke, and due to its location e
