One of the few old houses in Almaty: The house of the merchant Shakhvorostov in Almaty was built at the end of the 19th century in the Art Nouveau style for the Shakhvorostov family, presumably based on a design by Andrei Pavlovich Zenkov. In 1920, the building was nationalized and housed state institutions, and from 1926, the first medical college. From the 1960s, it housed the Museum of the History of Medicine, followed by various embassies.
