Best Mountain Biking Routes to Wartberg Observation Tower

Tips

  • On the 628m high Wartberg there is a small observation tower that used to serve as a signal station for communication. The view is limited, but it is still worth the trip.

  • The Wartberg is a lookout mountain with a lookout tower (628 m above sea level) north of the village of Grafenreuth. There is evidence that there was a guard tower on the hill from 1499 to 1787 as a margravial signaling station that spanned rooms and gave the neighboring guards signals of fire or smoke in the event of an enemy invasion. A rowan tree has stood in its place since 1839 and no remains of the wall can be seen. From the current observation tower, which was built in 1969 over a water tank, you have a beautiful panoramic view of the Egerland and the Ore Mountains.
