The Veltishof was first mentioned in 1663 under the name "Valentin Waldvogel". Until 1727, the farm was inherited by farmers.

In 1903 a fire destroyed the farm, but it could be rebuilt. By inheritance, the farm passed to the Prussian tax authorities in 1928.

Start of accommodation edit

From 1935/1936 three bedrooms were provided by the Kurverein to the German Youth Hostel Association. A year later there was an entry in the hostel directory with the name Franz Xaver Schwarz.

From 1941 the youth hostel associations were dissolved and taken over by the Reichsbund der Jugend.

After the war edit

The Veltishof has been on the youth hostel list again since 1949. The property was bought by the state of Baden-Württemberg in 1955 and the property was owned by the German Youth Hostel Association, Baden State Association in 1970.

A fire in 1982 caused by a cable fire destroyed the upper floor and the roof. Nobody was harmed here. In January of the following year, the reconstruction began, so that the basement and ground floor could be used in May. Another six months later, the entire hotel with 128 beds was ready for use.
