Ennistymon is one of those small towns that can easily surprise you when cycling. At first glance, the town seems rather sleepy, but when you get close to the famous waterfalls, it comes alive. The falls rush down in several cascades in the middle of the town - that's something special. A detour is particularly worthwhile after rainfall, when the waterfalls show their true power. A walk along the river also offers you beautiful perspectives of the old stone bridges and the houses that line the banks.

Depending on the time of day, the centre can be a bit cramped - agricultural vehicles and cars share the narrow streets. So it's better to be patient. But that's also what makes it so charming: somehow modern times seem to run slower here.

If you have time, treat yourself to a stop in one of the small cafes or pubs. The area around Ennistymon really invites you to take a break and experience rural Ireland in all its facets.
