In the middle of the Trettachtal valley, opposite the hamlet of Gottenried, at an altitude of 916 m, lies the beautiful and legendary mountain lake, colored blue to green. What makes this lake unique: It never freezes - not even at minus 30 degrees.
Immediately south of it, strong springs emerge, feeding the lake with clear water and providing it with top drinking water quality. Thus, the lake does not freeze at any time of the year, but in summer it is far too cold for swimming.
