The two bridges in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana are among the most important infrastructures in the history of the region. Both bridges were blown up by the German soldiers during their retreat operations in 1945 and then faithfully rebuilt at the end of the conflict.
The Santa Lucia bridge, also known as Ponte Vecchio, is made entirely of sandstone and has two identical arches.

The Santa Lucia Bridge is one of the most promising bridges in the Garfagnana and is located in the town of Castelnuovo, the main center in the area. It is a bridge for vehicles built in sandstone. Built in the fourteenth century, it has two round arches of equal width. Raffaello Raffaelli, commissioned by a worldwide oral tradition, in the "Geographical, historical, economic description of the Garfagnana", attributes the construction to Castruccio Castracani, which dates back to 1324.
