Ward’s Canyon is a cool, fern-filled side gorge off the Main Gorge Track that’s home to one of the most impressive stands of ancient king ferns in Carnarvon Gorge. A short, steep climb leads into this sheltered oasis, where towering king ferns, tree ferns, and trickling water create a unique contrast with the surrounding sandstone landscape. It’s one of the gorge’s most distinctive natural attractions, with plant species of ancient Gondwanan origins in a unique, moist microclimate.
