The so-called Gaberkirche is the well-preserved, albeit heavily restored remainder of the former castle Gaber. This was probably built around 1300. Most of the existing quarry stone masonry dates from the second half of the 14th century. Since practically only the walls of the castle chapel stand upright, the name Gaberkirche has become naturalized for the entire castle. The gentlemen of Gaber seem in the time between 1327 and 1405 on several occasions. The family might not have been very significant. Little is known about them. The military importance of the small festivals should also not have been very large. Bernhard von Gaber is first documented in 1327. Last Georg von Gaber 1405 appears. In the late 15th century, the castle Gaber is already described as dull. In 1543, the ruins of the Lords of Eibenstein, together with Eibenstein, became the property of the brothers Christoph and Erasmus von Schneckenreith. Eight years later, Margarethe von Schneckenreith sold the "desolate Veste" to the local community of Luden, which is still the owner of the largely overgrown ruin.

The Gaberkirche is hidden in the forest, the path is not signposted and its discovery is therefore only reserved for "in the know".
A beautiful destination for lovers of old walls!

The Gaberkirche near Luden in Lower Austria is the best preserved remnant of the dilapidated Gaber Castle.
Gaber Castle, which was built around 1300, is reported to have been deserted in the 15th century. Since the best-preserved walls come from the former castle chapel, the term Gaberkirche has become common, which is also used on maps.
