The Pelagiusplatz was created in 1863 by the Homburg hiking club "Samstagsgesellschaft" (a predecessor of the TAUNUSKLUB) as a vantage point and hiking destination. Every year on the day of Saint Pelagius (September 1) there was a hike there.
