One of numerous viewpoints here over the huge white crater of the Köppern quartzite quarry opposite.

The abandoned Oberschöna quarry was mined for quartzite. It has several soles, the deepest of which is full of water. Therefore, bathers can sometimes be found. In the western part of the quarry, on the top level, an earth wall was built. In the rock on this wall, the massive quartz is colored red to black in places by hematite and manganese oxide. In the smallest cavities, the manganese oxide also appears as a colorful, iridescent glass head. In this material there are sometimes tiny, clear barite panels, rectangular with beveled edges. Brookite is known from chlorite-bearing quartz crystal veins. Here it occurs in brown tabular crystals up to 2 mm in size next to small greenish clinochlore plates and tiny pointed pyramidal Anatase xx with a black to blue color. The quartz itself usually only appears coarse; small crystals are rarely found.
