The important baroque church of St. George on Gut Grauhof is unique in its design in northern Germany. The former Augustinian monastery of Grauhof was founded in 1701. The collegiate church of St. George was built between 1711 and 1714. It is particularly characterized by its high-quality baroque furnishings and the unusual spaciousness.
The organ of the church is of particular importance because it is the only organ made by the famous organ builder Christoph Treutmann that has been almost completely preserved and is valued by organists from all over the world for its sound quality.
The monastery is open on Sundays and public holidays from 3pm to 5pm, but it is sometimes possible to visit outside of opening hours. A donation is requested.
