A tall tower with allegedly 162 steps giving a good view of the area far above the treetops. On the way from Gülden you come to the tower well, the way coming from the south consists of field and forest paths and is quite sandy on a few hundred meters! The tower can be climbed for free at any time.

At 142 meters, the Hohe Mechtien is the highest point in the Wendland (and therefore exactly 1000 meters lower than the 1142 meter high Brocken, the highest mountain in the Harz). On the high Mechtien there is a 30 meter high wooden observation tower (also the highest in the district). The high Mechtien is covered all around by a (very beautiful) mixed forest. There are also very beautiful hiking trails here.

A great observation tower in the middle of the forest

Even with e-support, the climb is a challenge, no matter which way you come. Sand and pine cones from the south, changing, sometimes unclear, even for a single trail, path from the north.

The view, however, makes up for the effort. Maybe just leave another entry in the guest book. The guest book is in the shelter.

The observation tower can be seen from a distance. Then there's a steep section through the forest, after which it becomes very steep for about 100 meters, and you'll need to push your bike. From there, it's easier. In front of the tower, there's a small shelter, as well as garden benches and a table.

Since the tower is quite high, there are several steps leading up to the observation deck. Once you're there, you can really enjoy the view in good weather. Binoculars with information are also available free of charge.
