Mariager Monastery was founded in 1446 as a Bridgettine monastery. It housed monks and nuns in separate buildings on either side of the church. The town of Mariager later grew up around the monastery. The monastery quickly developed into a prosperous foundation.
Today, Mariager Monastery serves as the administrative building for Mariager Church.
