The Erzbahntrasse is a real gem among the Bahntrassenradwegen of the Ruhrgebiet. It leads from the Bochum Jahrhunderthalle to the Rhein-Herne-Kanal to Gelsenkirchen. As it is paved with very few exceptions, it is also ideal for racing bikes.

This section starts at Holger's Erzbahnbude (which is a highlight alone: komoot.de/highlight/106459) and ends just under five kilometers further north on the "Grimberger Sichel", a striking bridge over the Rhine-Herne Canal , Here is also the "Zoom Erlebniswelt", the worth seeing Gelsenkirchen zoo. Both at the start and at the end of the section, you have access to other beautiful (train path) bike paths through the Ruhr area.

If you would rather "watch people" than cycling, you should use this route, which leads 14 km to the Jahrhunderthalle, at the weekend. There is so much people on the road that you can hardly get by by bike in front of all the pedestrians, joggers, roller skaters and and and ... Better look for a nice bench and watch.
