Sibiel appears in official documents starting 1311.
It is the first rural tourist town of Romania. It won the most important distinction awarded in the world of tourism: the Golden Apple. It has a Museum of Icons painted on Glass, which receives up to 15,000 visitors per year and the ruins of the Salgo Fortress which is part of the Sibiel Hermitage.
