In the valley of the Hesperbach south of Lake Baldeney was the colliery railway of the Pörtingsiepen coal mine. Today a beautiful, partly natural path through the romantic-looking brook valley. For more information see achim-bartoschek.de/details/nw4_04.htm?w
Nice detour from the Ruhr cycle path. Further south it gets steep on the road to Velbert.

As early as the 16th century, the first tunnels for coal mining were constructed in the valley (Siepen) of the Poerting farm. From 1777 onwards, this developed into the Pörtingsiepen colliery, which remained in operation until 1973. The winding wheel is a reminder of the Pörtingsiepen II shaft, which was closed in 1972 and whose headframe was demolished in 1982.
