Where else in central Europe, say experts, is there a second time: a whole avenue, lined only by full-grown pear trees of many different varieties. Planted three generations ago with the intent to use and maintain them economically. The GDR planned economy then inherited the Birnenallee from the Nazi state, and, of necessity, kept it in horticulture as well. That's what fruit trees demand.

Great old pear avenue with a small rest area and a wooden cross and stone to commemorate the harvest festival. For cyclists, the route between Nord-Germersleben and Rottmersleben is the same as the Paris-Roubaix in Saxony-Anhalt.
