The Grenzpad is a beautiful nature trail right on the Germany/Netherlands border and is quite easy to drive on. Original, barren heathlands line the path and give a little insight into what the area must have looked like in the past. Along the "Pad" you will always find boundary stones made of sandstone and the so-called "Commiezenhutten". These huts were built partly below and partly above ground and served as a shelter for the customs officers and as an observation post to ambush the numerous smugglers.
