Maximilian I commissioned the construction of the armory, located on the Sill River and then outside the city gates, between 1500 and 1505. It consists of two two-story wings, each measuring 80 x 10 meters, and two narrow gate and connecting wings enclosing a large inner courtyard. This was where war materiel was stored, and ancillary workshops were located around the armory. In addition to cannons, many handguns were also stored there.
