The Hungarian Parliament Building (Országház) is one of Budapest's most famous landmarks and one of the largest parliament buildings in the world. It is located directly on the Danube riverbank on Kossuth Lajos Square and shapes the city's silhouette with its imposing neo-Gothic architecture.
The building was constructed according to the plans of architect Imre Steindl. Construction began in 1885, and the official opening took place in 1896 on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the founding of the Hungarian state. The building is approximately 268 meters long, has a 96-meter-high dome, and combines neo-Gothic elements with Renaissance influences.
