Budapest's grandest, largest fountain, in front of which tourists like to take photos. That is why it would be time to clean it of patina and scale. Alajos Stróbl's 1904 work can be found on the northern wall of the former chapel of the royal palace.
King Matthias arrives at the spring in hunting clothes. From the right - on a separate pedestal - the figure of Ilonka Szép sits, next to a small doe, on the left... Galeotto with a falcon and notes. In front of the group, in the center, the king's henchman gives a horn signal; the master hunter with dogs. Prince Pállfy sent a hunting dog to Stróbl as a model, bronze and mosaic background.
The middle hunting dog died in 1945, Jenő Grantner created the new dog statue, which was made in the already nationalized Vignali foundry, in a significantly worse quality than at the time, which is why the dog is strikingly different from its two companions. After the war, they forgot to restore the dogs' leashes.

The Mátyás Fountain is located in the southern part of Buda Castle, in the Hunyadi Court of the Castle Palace.
The Alajos Stróbl fountain shows a boulder from which springs originate. Above the spring is King Matthias in hunting clothes, deer hunted at his feet, and members of his escort with hunting dogs casting off their thirst from the waters of spring.
The history of the statue also includes that Prince Pálffy sent a hunting dog to Stróbl. The statue of three hunting dogs in the center was damaged during World War II. Instead, Jenő Grantner made a new one. This is made in a much weaker quality than the original, so it is very different from two of its partners. Dog leashes were not restored after the war.
