Bike Touring Highlight
On the cycle path from Bad Marienberg-Langenbach to the center of Bad Marienberg there is on the right side the former loading station of the basalt quarry Bacher Lay. Immediately opposite. is the viaduct of the former railway line Marienberg-Großseifen over the Nistertal. Here the smaller baskets were used to load and transport the broken basalt stones and chippings to larger wagons. The locomotives were then parked in the former engine shed on the "Weidling" and the next day we went on. Bone job that the old Wästerwälder have done there.
Incidentally, the basalt has been used on the German, Belgian and Dutch North Sea coast for the construction of breakwaters.
