It is a disused basalt quarry located between Bad Marienberg and Nisterau directly on the Black Nister, an inflow of the great Nister. The name derives from the former independent town of Bach, which is today a district of the municipality Nisterau from; Lay means quarry in this case. The area extends in parts over the districts Bad Marienberg, Bach, Eichenstruth and Stockhausen-Illfurth.The Bacher Lay is characterized by a mighty, almost vertical basalt stone wall, which was created by the earlier basalt mining. The nearby "Pfaffenmal", an 18 meter high column basalt cone in Meilerstellung, is also worth seeing. (Source: Wickipedia)The place is really great and the bike path is just beautiful. Just take a look yourself !!
