The construction of the castle is dated around 1763, almost 20 years before the death of Frederick the Great.[1] According to Theodor Fontane (in Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg, Volume 2), Frederick the Great is said to have remarked: "He's building a castle! He wants to aim high!", after which Joachim Bernhard von Prittwitz is said to have forgone the bel étage, leaving it as a single-story, three-winged complex with a high mansard roof. Carl Gotthard Langhans was involved in the interior design. Source Wikipedia
