    The church was built before 1700, as maps from the Venetian period attest.

    During Ottoman rule, it was temporarily used as a mosque, but was later reclaimed and rebuilt with financial support from local nobles.

    The current appearance dates back to 1893 and is the work of engineer Theodoros Diamantopoulos. It is considered an outstanding example of 19th-century neoclassical church architecture.

    The church is a metochion (branch) of the Monastery of Taxiarchon and serves as a spiritual center for the community.
