We are standing here in front of a typical Gründerzeit building from 1895. The actress Asta Nielsen lived on the first floor from 1931 to 1937.
Asta Nielsen was born in Copenhagen in 1881. She grew up in humble circumstances. Her father was often unemployed and died young. Her mother worked as a laundress. Money was tight, but Asta Nielsen wanted to be on stage – and she succeeded despite the circumstances: She received lessons and later even a scholarship to drama school in Copenhagen.
