Location: Trient, Martigny, Valais, Switzerland
Rather unknown rise from Martigny, which most probably more likely to connect with the Great St. Bernard. The Forclaz can have a respectable height difference of 1032 meters in altitude and runs extremely pleasantly and evenly. The slope is consistent 8-9% without incline peaks, the road is well paved (06/2019) and wide, which makes them recommended in departure direction. At the beginning you drive up with a great view through the steep slope north of Martigny and the Valais continues to spread under one. Later you drive through mountain forest and some serpentine, but the view of the surrounding mountains is always preserved.

As the main traffic route between the Rottental and Chamonix, this route gets very busy during the peak summer holiday season. An alternative is the Petite Forclaz, which is extremely quiet, but has a decent gradient and is quite sunny from midday onwards.

The climb from Martigny is steady, making for a truly pleasant ride. It also offers magnificent views of the mountains.
