Porta Metauro, also known as Porta San Pietro, is one of Gubbio's most evocative historic entrances, located along the eastern side of the medieval walls. The gate is famous not only for its solid stone structure and imposing arch, but above all for its ancient wooden doors, among the few remaining city gates. These doors, made of sturdy solid wood planks and reinforced with iron studs, directly tell the story of the city's medieval history, offering a rare example of original defensive architecture.
