From the mouth at Hoek van Holland, the Meuse Route runs along the Meuse to its source. This route is now fully signposted in both directions and takes you past nice historical places in the Netherlands, Belgium and France. The Maas was often a border river, a natural barrier to hold back enemies

The Meuse (Latin Mosa, French Meuse [møz], Walloon Moûze, Limburg Maos and Dutch Maas) is an approximately 874 km [1] long river that flows through France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Today, the Maas flows into the southern main stream of the Rhine-Maas delta, the Hollands Diep, and is therefore part of the Rhine river system. The original estuary was in the northern main stream Scheur (today Nieuwe Waterweg). This part of the river is still preserved as the Oude Maas. The Maas is by far the longest tributary of the Rhine and the second most water-rich after the Aare. It is also the namesake of the second longest tributary of the Rhine, the Moselle (Latin Mosella: "Little Maas").

A wonderful route from Namur to Dinant. Good cycle path, partly on the road with cycle lanes.
