Krewinkel was first mentioned in a document in 1397. It is assumed, however, that the place is much older and could have been inhabited as early as Roman times (approx. 57 BC to approx. 450 AD). This is indicated by a hill called the Römerberg, on which artefacts from this period were found. What makes the folklore position of the Römerberg particularly attractive is the legend of the golden calf. The golden calf is said to be a treasure that is said to lie hidden inside the mountain. In addition to the extreme material hardship, the plague, which verifiably raged in Krewinkel in 1624, was added to the period of the Thirty Years' War. Source: buellingen.be/index.php?id=223

The former Saint Eligius Chapel was elevated to a parish church in 1924.
At the end of the 1950s they wanted to expand it with an extension.
However, this plan was rejected due to the monumental nature of the chapel.
The chapel was subsequently restored and used for cultural purposes. Finally, a new church was built, which was put into use in 1961.
This new church was entirely paid for by contributions from the parishioners.
