The largest water reservoir in the Netherlands is the Cranenweyer, a reservoir near Kerkrade in the Anstel Valley. It is the only reservoir in the Netherlands and was constructed in 1974 to regulate the Anstelerbeek stream and improve the area's recreational potential.
Location: In the Anstel Valley, near Eygelshoven and in the Gravenrode Park area.
Function: The lake has a regulatory function (preventing flooding) and a recreational function (fish pond).
Area: Approximately 20 hectares.
