On the right - you see the ring road around Susteren - see a steep terrace edge. This is the outer corner of the Oermaas that steamed here about 15,000 years ago. It forms the transition from the higher situated Maasterras (van Susteren-Echt) and the lower part of the Terras van Dieteren in which the Taterbosch and the Doort are located.
To the left are the fish ponds that are the result of the excavation of the Maas clay for the Pannenfabriek Excelsior. Gravel was later excavated.
