Originally there was a skipper's inn here, known as Het Wit Paard, Spaenjaert or De Spaanjerd. This was mentioned on the Ferraris map as Cabaret Cheval Blanc and was first mentioned in 1753. In the 19th century it was referred to as Het wit Peerd Cabaret or Wit Paard Ferme. From 1861 onwards a ferry service departed from here to the right bank of the Maas. It was also a landing place for the Liège-Roermond ferry service.
The 18th-century structure was destroyed in 1944 and rebuilt in 1946.
