The public park is located on the former ramparts along the city moat "Zoeterwoudsesingel" and was laid out in 1834-1835 according to a plan by city architect Salomon van der Paauw, who was inspired by the English landscape style. (Source: Association hetplantsoen.nl) The design work was undertaken in 1836 by the renowned landscape architect Jan David Zocher Jr. (Source: explore Leiden). With its trees, flowers, children's playground, sculptures, monuments, and even a bird aviary, it is a place for the whole family and an oasis for the soul in the heart of the city.
