The Leidse Hout was opened on 30 June 1931. It was built as a job creation project.

The city park with its many bridges is mainly planted with typical Dutch trees and plants. There are still many oaks, ash, beeches and alders in the park. There are also more than 140 types of mushrooms growing there.

The park includes a tea house, deer park, playground and music pavilion.
There is a large playing field on the north side.
The free pop festival “Werfpop” takes place here every year (normally).
