On the Wittringer bird island directly at the moated castle exists already for many years a mini bird park.
In 2005, after total reconstruction, it reopened its gates and now offers a birdwatching area and a collection of large, but rather barren aviaries.
Macaws, cockatoos and other parrots are the main species, along with other 'exotic' species such as turacos and pheasants, beos and flamingos.
Directly in front of the bird island stood until 2004, a castle extension with a small show aquarium, which was demolished without replacement.
