It is not well known that there was also a book burning in Gladbeck in 1933. On July 1st, the evening before the "Festival of the German School", the citizens of Gladbeck gathered at the Wittringer Memorial to burn works by unloved authors with a "blast of fire". The action was initiated by the local NSDAP group, and the Hitler Youth was also involved in the execution, collecting the books and whose local leader gave the fiery speech.
