Beautifully hidden spot just beyond Lake Maggiore of which Lake Mergozzo is an ancient branch, now cut off by erosion. Mergozzo is just a tranquil and placid billage nested amongst steep mountains that circle the lake. A lovely view of the small lake can be savoured form the main sqaure where a bunch of bars and restaurants offer the usually excerllent Italian fare of food and beverages. A must stop for any visitor of this area.

Mergozzo is a little oasis of peace with some nice cafes and restaurants, where a break away from the hustle and bustle of Lake Maggiore is worthwhile. When you start your tour in Domodossola you can enjoy a first coffee break after 28 km.
