Ferenc Rákoczi II of Hungary was born on March 27th, 1676 in Borsi and died on April 8th, 1735 in Rodosto. In 1703 he proclaimed the liberation of Hungary from Austria. Dragoons who fought against him under Count Schönborn came to Kissingen after 1737 for spa stays. Presumably they gave one of the healing springs - because of their "rebellious effect" - the name "Rákoczy". In June 1991 the Kissinger erected a memorial to him. Resting in the armchair in front of the entrance to the foyer, he now watches the goings-on around the Heilbrunnenzapfstelle.
