From this location, the castle was located approximately 100 meters into the forest below the railway tracks.

A family named itself after the castle appears in 1220, while the castle itself is explicitly mentioned in 1240. The structural development of the castle complex, which was finally demolished at the end of the 18th century, is unclear. When Oberhausen House was demolished in 1791 due to dilapidation, only stones from the foundations and firewalls were removed from the abandoned Oberhausen moated castle for further construction work.
Early modern written sources only mention individual components or buildings of the moated castle. The "Upper House" housed the residential building, a gatehouse with a drawbridge, and the bakehouse. The Niederpl(atz square housed a brewery, barn, and stables for the farm. (Jens Friedhoff)
