Built in 1463

You are in one of the oldest properties in Karlsruhe.

The house with the number 14 was built in 1463, before the discovery of America, in the style of a ridge-frame house typical of the late Middle Ages.

Vertical oak stands protrude up to a height of 10 meters under the roof. There is evidence that the building is the oldest house in Karlsruhe.

It used to belong to a wealthy winegrower, as the wide barrel staircase that leads into the vaulted cellar shows.

Before that the house belonged to one of the documented monastery courtyards in this area.

An old military and trade route called "Bergstrasse" passed here as early as the 15th century when coming from Bruchsal. Many travelers used this route, further to the Pfinz, where the river could be crossed towards Durlach.
