One of the early examples of ÖPEL (Ecology Program Emscher-Lippe). The 1926 created pure sewer was rebuilt in 1996 after the completion of the Scharnhorst sewage treatment plant. Today it is a clear water stream almost parallel to the Dortmund-Hamm railway line. Very nice and quiet path connections.

The bike path has a surface of fine gravel, no potholes and no inclines. It is nice to drive without the annoying traffic. Recommendable.

In the 1920s, the Körnebach was expanded into a sewage system to wash away the waste water from the mines and the surrounding settlements. Only after extensive renaturation measures has the Körnebach been a pure watercourse again since 2006. Incidentally, the Kurl house on the Körnebach was the origin of today's Kurl district. The first documented mention of the Kurl house in 1189 marks the beginning of documented history.
