A “symbol of the mountain team”
Herzfeld was a trained blacksmith before becoming a police officer and then deciding to study art. In 1973 he took part in a legendary campaign by his teacher Joseph Beuys (1921-1986) when he created a dugout canoe and used it to ferry Beuys across the Rhine.
