The former Merl train station was in operation until passenger service was discontinued in 1961 and was part of the Moselle Railway from Bullay to Trier. The line was affectionately called the "little boozer" (Saufbähnchen) because it was particularly popular with day-trippers who enjoyed the scenic ride along the Moselle. Today, the historic building is a popular tourist destination and houses a restaurant commemorating the history of the Moselle Railway.

A very nice place to stop for refreshments along the historic route.
