This large, simple nightlight is made from Namigata Rock (a conglomerate containing shellfish fossils) from the Cenozoic Tertiary Period (approximately 2 million years ago) exposed on Mt. Oda, and is 424cm tall.
The words "Kaei 3, year of the Dog (Kōji) year, November 11th, auspicious day, carpenter, Yamaoka Yoshiyoshi of this place, commissioned on this day" are engraved on the light. Kaei 3 corresponds to 1850, at the end of the Edo period.
