The Wassertrum was commissioned in 1911 and was completed in 1914, and was in use until 1954.
Eduard Behrens, a Groß Lafferder Kommerzienrat, donated the water tower. It is 31 meters high and holds 150,000 liters of water. Its outer facade is made of bricks.
Inside there are exhibitions on local history on five floors. A historic room has been set up, old typewriters can be admired, prepared animals on the 3rd floor, agricultural implements and numerous pictures and documents give a picture of former village life.
Every year on the last Wednesday in September and the following Thursday, the Lafferder Market takes place at the foot of the water tower.
